Wainui School

Silverdale, Auckland

Wainui School tackled what was nothing but a large, unused, muddy area and totally revamped it with a mammoth 1,300 native plants, pathways and educational signage that shows both the botanical and Māori names for each native plant.

Sustainability is a big part at Wainui School, which is why they made the educational signs from garden material such as flax kites and refurbished an old slide, rather than buying new ones.

The children are now able to weave their way through the native bush on a number of brand new paths to a specially created seating area, including two garden bench seats assembled by students.
