Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto

Beckenham, Christchurch

Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto transformed a section of its grounds into an interactive outdoor classroom and become a TREEmendous School!

The school now has a useful space filled with native trees, a magnetic wall and tables created from timber cable reels that provide inspiring spaces for group work.

The school community is still recovering from the traumatic aftermath of the 2011 earthquakes and have worked tirelessly to create this area for its students to feel safe while they learn and play.

Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage, even helped by planting a punga tree!

Ahead of the TREEmendous event the students were treated to a visit by Ruud ‘The Bugman’ Kleinpaste and Riley ‘The Sharkman’ Elliott. Ruud brought along his insect friends and spoke with the students about native bugs and the importance of looking after them, while Riley explained how he overcame his fear of sharks and how we can take better care of our oceans.
